In this article by William Stauffer on November 4, Dr. Stauffer discusses how we are "losing community and connection with each other across our nation.

It is a key driver of drug use. People cope with boredom, iaolation, and despair by getting high to feel relief." He goes on to explain how a recovery community is a healing force largely hidden form public view. He suggests that the breakdown of community, with a loss of hope, trust and sence of community is a major driving force in the increas in substance abuse maybe more so the trauma which is the current conventional wisdom. He also remind us that trauma has always been of large part of life but community and connaction which used to help people through this is what is breaking down. So the dissintegration and breadown of community may well be the catalyst in this druuag scourge.
